Here we have the CHANGELOG or VERSIONS or HISTORY or whatever for my website, this is basically for me so i can look back on what has been, i think i must be growing up, as memories are becoming more important, anyway here it is, it might be interesting to read, or not.
The trials and tribulations of web design follow....
Well it all began here, for some reason i decided to start coding a web page, i had done this before, once a simple flat pager ages ago and more recently an initial development page for my old college, Gateway Sixth Form College in Leicester. This was going well but i left before it was completed and they never did anything else.
Still coding hard..., added Frames, Imagemaps, loads of Font COLOR tags, Headings and beefed up the general info.
Well serious amounts new pages, layout fixed for this version added, links and ALT tags (look to see).
Spent almost all day adding to site, major debug- now works totally with Voyager 2.88, (when i have internet access i will get demo versions of AWEB / IBrowse / Webcruiser / Opera Ami-Netscape to test this page more fully), added guestbook and a theoretically working but very simple CGI script to add data. However i need AWS or Apache to test this.
Well, well no more visions of CGI/Perl scripting as my University wouldn't give us space for the sizes and geocities say no perl, which is ok it did look pretty cool however.....
I signed up to geocities on 09/23/98 09:00:07, but have still not got my password, however the site is nearly complete and i am integrating their own stuff into my main screen.
I have now got Voyager 2.95, so i managed to do some more testing, and correct some more problems that occurred with the code, added a secret page to which this is the only link, nb: i have taken this out, cos im more grown up now, and it was just wrong - 03/04/2002 i don't know weather the problem was with me or with Voyager, because AWeb never complained.?, ugh well i suppose i will never know.
Still have not got any joy from geocities, this is beginning to piss me off, however i have updated the site anyway, not only has it got very big, but i have also added a load of DICE related stuff, its my new project.
Some pretty important things have happened since the last update to the site, and i am not just talking HTML here, ok so i have filled it out more and fixed all the bugs that i could find, but more importantly DICE has re-started development and AI chose QNX as the development partner for the new OS5.0 dev, which is now recorded here for posterity.
Well, i submitted my site to AWD and i have site got a complete orgy of hits, so i have been updating the page every night since, (its 03.28 now), re-worked lots of pages, added quite a lot of new stuff, acted on feedback to change a few things. - i need sleep
More stuff, i wonder if my work is suffering ?, i really should stop working on this site and do my Architecture assignment, ugh well. The frame now fits properly, as do all the other pages onto a 640 / 512 screen, also re-did the 'made on amiga' banner, just to make it perfectly clear to PC owners. Added to interface dreams page, several big images Voyager seems to have problems with this, AWeb is fine, Voyager had some MASSIVE crashes, 'hopefully solved now, after 5 re-boots, however make sure you have a large slice of chip mem, for page11, i thought Voyager used Fast for images... next release maybe...
You can now here this page !!!, well if you have your browser set-up properly anyway, the background music is the c64-amiga-song, in my humble opinion one of the best MOD's ever written.
Well its a new year and do well have a new look, well no. What we have is a broken hit counter and some moodiest updates to the web site. so their.
More incremental stuff, small changes to dice section, updates to links, etc... working upto serious update soon. Added an AnimGif,.. wow.
Yep, exactly one month after the last update we have a massive overhaul, or should it be fill up,.. almost all pages were extended and added to, while others were reorganised and even some new ones.
Well here we are again, this time with new scanned pictures..!, we also have a section on women and a more sensible method of dealing with links from within frames.
Just some general house-keeping,. document updates and other general rubbish, like a HTML version of my SYS: directory,.. yep,.!, created with HTML2DIR.
I had visions of a major update to this over the summer, but that is not going to happen, i have to work you know, anyway there is quite a bit. Just for the record all my spare time is going on my programming projects, so there.
Well i finally did something, quite a few pages, (audio/contacts/personal) got updates, as well as some new women and pictures.
LONG LIVE THE NEW WEBSITE, the core structure now works and works constantly, AWeb is the browser doing most of the work, but its all looking very sexy and (new), to much stuff changed to mention but only 20% of contents left unchanged, structure re-written.
03/02/2000 Well the new site, works and its basically complete, i have had to leave the big online dice docs at geocities cos they just take up to much room. I am all set now to jump to connectfree.
I have only done maintenance on this site over the last few months, i have slowly added some new features, nothing to really get excited about. NOTE i had some business types from Equant visit this site, (coool !!), and the liked it. I also had some guy with exactly the same name !!, and that's about it. On the general theme of historical interest, Amiga Corp, bought out Gateway for the amigaos copyrights and are now using Tao Elate OS as a core. I hope they get a product out this time.
Well i had some more people. business types visit my page, the nice people from Serck Controls Ltd, they liked my 8085 assembler, and i think that made the difference cos i have got a placement with them, cool or what !, i also added a load more code to the archive i have got, i now also have my UAE archived (ROMS & all), and some MPEGS snarfed from the net about the 'deathbed vidual' that Dave Hyine did at commodore just before it died. They are stored on the links page, cos i cant think of a better place for them. HOT NEWS: Amiga, got its ass in gear and the OS4 dev machines should be out in a few weeks (sweet!)
A few updates to my personal site, but a major new section called maelstrom, which will be a connection of new amiga software, for which i have signed up as part of the developer plan, complete with NDAs and everything.
Updates to my personal website after i noticed how out of date it was, some internal re-organisation so i can stay sane whilst i work on the site. I added a WAP site and re-organised the credits and code sections to represent my current multi-platform status. I would have done more but i am spending lots of time at work with some cool code, a linux demo of Quake III Arena has not helped either,.. frag 7 to me !!
Well i had another burst of energy and did some more work on the serck / pdp11 / cv type pages, and finally got round to giving the files sensible names !, i also now have over 550 buffy pictures, which must be pretty obsessive. Anyhow im now on a new computer, 1ghz duron, 512mb ram, etc, so im smooth and quick, its al long way from the beginning of this site when i was using the good old 14mhz amiga1200 with 2 meg of memory (at that time IIRC, as i jumped to 8mb), well im still coding in the same fashion, and still making all the same spelling mistakes, time passes but things dont change.. thanks hayley.
Am i a div or what,.. i just got told that the public/ section of my website isent viewable from netscape 4.x or any version of IE,. !, its not obvious what the problem is either, was is obvious is that Mozilla, Opera, Konquor dont mind and they were the only browsers that i tested it with dugh !!.
Anyhow i updated lots of pages; serck / sheffield / leicester / coventry / people and music with stuff i had been working on for a long time. I also uploaded a whole slew of new pictures that i had taken of the guys at serck & some pictures of the scenery.
I added some new pages in the geeking section, about emulation / plan 9 and some other stuff, and also a new and totaly random page about computing ethics.
Wow, almost a shockingly regular update,..!, well i had to and some new stuff, started my page about the germans, added a page about graphical lilo, and added an install guide for Mandrake Linux 8.2 on a Dell Inpiron 2500,.. well it was for Mona, but there seemed to be no reason why other people should not see it as well.
In quite unrelated news, im now going to work in Cov, for Serck, well at least for a few years,.. which will be nice,.. i also grew up a little bit more, which cant be all bad,. thanks for trusting me Mona,...
Just for refernce here is how the web has changed, AmigaOS is all but dead (pitty), linux is breaking into the mainstream, GCC is at version 4 and im very involved with lowlevel development at work. Im still at Serck, although lots of people have left, i've been there for 5 years now, and been living with mona (the moose) for 3. Ough and i have bought a house, for 112,000 pounds, we will see if that was a good investment.
As far as the net is concerned, Internet explorer having won the browser wars has basicly not been developed for 4 years, and is still at version6, Mozilla is at 1.8, and its cutdown, just does browing and is very popular cousin firefox is at 1.03. Apple have gone all nice to the OSS community and are using the KHTML engine for there browser Safari and thats about it.
Well 2006 already, dont time just go fast, well the website got a new front page, and i finaly came out, about my trains habit and put and link on the front page. I also added a section about compilers which contains all my Nucleus/GCC/newlib informations and build scripts, a few people seem to have found it handy, so i think i have contributed back. Ough and the Aus takeover of Serck has stepped up pace, Bob has gone off to a sperate building and Cliffe, Warner, Cox-Casy and Fletcher got left behind to do the support for everything.
Well 2009 and only just done some updates, using google analytics to see if anybody actually looks at this page. Fixed some broken links, but not on the links page, as they are all broken, thats about 19/20 changed in 6-8 years !
Got the site up figured out HTML (thanks CU Amiga)
(shit its 2000 already!), well i did basicly no technolgy improvements, sorry
damn i just noticed its gone 2001.. hell, well at least i i got some new languages in the site, WML (for WAP) and some XML as well.
Java Applets ??,
I am starting to think that the best way to do 'super-dupa' cool effects in with a proper bit of java, and applets seem the way to go, now that most browsers support them it should not be to hard.
After playing with ROXEN, and WAP (WML/XML) i am now of the belief that CORBA and XML are two very 'kickass' technolgies and i will be dammed if i cant work them into my website.
Host this site myself,.. ?, well i have a server up, but i think i need some more cash before i go permanent, i think this is what is known as a permemnt pipe dream, ough well keep dreaming.
